SASBO NEWS TAKES THIRD PRIZE IN NATIONAL COMPETITION

Each year, the South African Publication Forum holds a competition for corporate publications. More than 120 publications were entered in this year's competition. Entries were judged in three categories:

  • Writing
  • Communication
  • Layout and Photography

Sasbo News came third in the category for best internal newspapers and received Certificates of Merit (more than 75%) in the Writing and Communication categories.

In the Communication category, your newspaper also achieved the distinction of being named one of the top five.

'The judges - top achievers in the publication industry - give feedback on each of the different criteria,' explains Sasbo general secretary, Shaun Oelschig. 'We enter Sasbo News to obtain appraisals that aid our continuous efforts to make our publication more informative and entertaining for our members.

'The fact that we did so well this year shows that we're on the right track. The criticisms received will help us to make Sasbo News even better.'

Some of the judges' comments were:

    Communication:
'I cannot think of a single way this publication could do more to communicate with and among its readers. Seriously!'
'A wealth of information is provided. I think the union knows its union members very well.'
'My overall impression of both Sasbo and Sasbo News is that members/readers get good value for their money.'

    Writing
'Sasbo News tells it like it is. A good spread between news and info members need and want.'

    Layout and photography
'The layout supports the contents; your eye is drawn to the headings and subheadings and is well ordered.'
'The sensible layout allows placing a lot of text in a limited space.'
    '90 years – a true milestone!'
